Vijayawada Garden Estate Apartment - document assignment 3

Vijayawada Garden Estate Apartment

This document is about the process of making Vijayawada Garden Estate Apartment. This building is similar to the other one I made in this course. Both of them are from the same Architectural firm. The feature of this concept is modular system and sustainability. Residents can design their own space especially the terrace area and building facade. So this model mainly presents its modifiable facade area and shows some options for reflecting its concept. The tricky part of this model is the fix device that holds the movable board, becuase the model itself is a conceptual design, not an actual building, and there are few cases in which modular esign can be fully implemented. So bascially there is no much information available on the structure. After discussing with tutor, I've come up with a simple fix, like the image shows. It is not enough to simply cut a slot in the floor to make sure that the board can be fixed at the spot. Becuase the height between the ceiling and the floor is fixed, the groove can not guarantee that the bord can be put intact. So making a highlight part that allows the board to slide in, and use something to hold it in place. It is shown in the images below.

Process of Physcial model

In this process, because of the size, the frame doesn't have the appopriate material, so two different Balsa boards are used for instead. But here the balsa board has a drawback, it's easy to chip corners in the cutting process. So it's better to use the right sized slats, or plywood with a coat of Balsa. Also, the cut balsa board must be sanded on each surface to make it more flat and smooth after being glued.
